My first time picking up a camera was when I adopted my beautiful son from Guatemala. He is truly the face of Barrie Smith Photography. My images received so much attention because they were different. They were creative. They were often taken when he wasn’t smiling. I focused on his beautiful eyes, his natural look. I wouldn’t put him in just a collared shirt, I would dress him up-fashion added a lot to the image and I knew it. These photos of him turned into a piece of art, not your traditional portrait. After almost 8 years, I decided it is time to focus on my true passion, and that is the art of photography. When you order a print of your child, I don’t want it to be just a “picture," I want it to be a unique and personal piece of art that can be displayed in your home. You will never hear me say "smile for the camera"...my goal is to capture the beauty of a natural look. Close up. Nothing forced. That to me is ART.
I know that this concept can seem “different”, and you may feel it’s easier and safer to just go with a typical family photographer to capture the different stages and milestones in your child's life, but I promise you will be blown away by the final product. Many of you have seen me running with your children to get candid shots, or me trying to get your children to smile or laugh (with your help of course). As much I loved getting your little ones to laugh, I know from personal experience how amazing it is to get a print of your child-with a look that can’t be duplicated. It’s not a smiley image that can easily be taken with your iPhone or your personal camera. This session will be very structured and I will focus on children individually. Black and white, color, happy, sad, whatever it is…when you hang up those prints, there will be a personal piece of art on your wall that will have true meaning to you and your family.
I am excited for this new venture. I am taking my love of fashion, art and photography…and putting it all together. This is what I do best, my passion…and it shows in my work. Some images will look like they are right out of a GAP catalog and others will be so natural that they will take your breath away. That’s the beauty of fine art photography. I will also be selling my fine art prints. Over the years I started playing around with fine art photography (objects, building, signs, landscapes, etc.). I will have galleries on my website for those interested.
Family sessions will still be available, but space will be limited. Holiday card mini sessions will also be available to families, dates TBD.
